Booked your first padel court? Here’s exactly what to pack, from the essentials to the small extras that make a session more comfortable.
The essentials
1. A padel racket
Most clubs rent rackets, which is fine for a first try. Once you’re hooked, your own racket makes a big difference to feel and consistency. Beginners should look for a round head, a lighter weight and a softer core. Read our racket buying guide for the details.

2. Padel balls
Padel balls are slightly lower pressure than tennis balls. Clubs often provide them, but check when you book.
3. The right shoes
Court shoes with a herringbone or clay-style sole give grip and side-to-side support. Avoid running shoes, which slide on artificial grass and offer little lateral support.
4. Comfortable sportswear and water
Games are short and intense, so wear breathable kit and bring a full bottle.

Before you play
- Arrive 10 minutes early to warm up: light jogging, shoulder circles and a few gentle volleys.
- Always wear the racket’s wrist strap. It’s part of the rules.
