You don’t need a garage full of machines to train well at home. A handful of small, affordable pieces of kit will cover strength, cardio, core and mobility – and they fit in a drawer when you’re done. Here’s what we’d start with.
1. Long resistance bands
The most versatile thing you can own. Use them for banded squats, presses, rows and pull-aparts, to make push-ups harder, or to take some weight off assisted pull-ups. Fabric bands are comfier than thin latex ones and don’t roll up.

2. A skipping rope
Ten minutes of skipping is a brilliant cardio session and a staple of boxing training. A weighted rope also works your shoulders and grip.
→ Adjustable Weighted Skipping Rope
3. An ab roller
Roll-outs are one of the most effective core exercises there is. A rebound roller helps you back to the start, which makes it easier to learn good form.
→ Rebound Ab Roller with Knee Mat
4. A thick exercise mat
For floor work, stretching and yoga, a cushioned non-slip mat protects your knees and back on hard floors.
→ 8mm Thick Yoga Mat with Carry Strap
5. Wrist wraps
If you press or do lots of push-ups, wraps give your wrists extra support and stability as the weights go up.
6. An agility ladder
Great for warm-ups, footwork and fun HIIT circuits in the garden – not just for footballers.
